The live performance will take place on Friday 12 June at 16:30 in the town hall in Terneuzen. On 13 June there will be an artist talk with Delaere, also at the town hall.
PROGRAMME | Friday 12 June 2026, 16:30 | Live performance
ArtBase Terneuzen and the Zeeland Jazz Festival present Transitivity: a new live performance and installation by visual artist Koen Delaere and drummer/composer Sun-Mi Hong, in which painting and jazz meet in improvisation, rhythm and mutual response.
For this occasion, Delaere will construct a spatial installation of paintings in the town hall of Terneuzen, to which Hong will respond live. The painting is not a finished object, but an active instrument that resonates and responds. Image and sound enter into a dialogue — sometimes reinforcing, sometimes clashing — in a free but never arbitrary improvisation. For the audience, seeing and listening merge, and performance, installation and environment gradually flow into one another.
Throughout the weekend, the performance installation can be viewed in the town hall of Terneuzen.
PROGRAMME | Saturday 13 June 2026, 15:30 | Artist talk
Curator Eva Langerak will talk with Koen Delaere about his working process, improvisation and the importance of free creative space. Delaere, who grew up in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen, has been collaborating with musicians and performers for many years. In 2008 he founded Whatspace: a nomadic art platform without a fixed location, focused on new forms of collaboration, production and presentation.
