Artbase Terneuzen

BY PROVIDING A PLATFORM FOR ZEELAND -based- ARTISTS AND INTERNATIONALLY RENOWNED NAMES, ARTBASE TERNEUZEN STRIVES TO STRENGTHEN THE CULTURAL INFRASTRUCTURE, BRING ART AND PEOPLE TOGETHER, AND EVENTUALLY GROW INTO AN INSTITUTE WITH INTERNATIONAL APPEAL
ArtBase Terneuzen is a pilot project to explore whether a museum for contemporary art in Terneuzen, Zeeuws-Vlaanderen is feasible. The goal is to work towards a connecting museum model with international appeal and focused on the significance of the region. A museum 'without walls', that fits the needs of the region focused on Zeeland artists and in an international context.
The brutalist city hall of Terneuzen is being used, alongside other locations, for pilot programs. ArtBase Terneuzen explicitly seeks collaboration with other cultural institutions and museums in the region and in Belgium.
ArtBase Terneuzen will not be an ordinary museum, but a museum without walls, a place where doors open and new possibilities for art in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen take center stage. Not only is the art itself important, but certainly also visitors and participants and the place where the art activities take place.
ArtBase Terneuzen focuses first and foremost on developing a platform for Zeeland artists, but also wants to strengthen the cultural infrastructure - through art commissions - bring art and people together and certainly also become an institute with international appeal in the long term.
