Exercises in free thinking: Post 65 in Zeeland, landscape in motion

On Saturday 24 January 2026, a conversation took place as part of the Programme Post 65 in Zeeland about Landscape in Motion, with the focus on the meaning, change and future of the Zeeland landscape.

Moderator Marie Jeanne de Rooij spoke with artist/architect Erick de Lyon about a number of his projects — some realised and others not in Zeeland — and about the idea of an open-air museum with plenty of room for new and free contributions from artists, without too much heritage regulation getting in the way of dynamic, artistic change that also respects what it once was. More info on his projects: here.

Christiaan Weiler, programme coordinator at CBK Zeeland, spoke about the artistic research project Grensgevallen (Border Cases). Through intensive and early collaboration with experts and creatives — not only engineers, policymakers, entrepreneurs and politicians, but also artists, writers and directly involved parties (citizens and local residents) — Grensgevallen explores various possibilities for the upcoming transitions of the Zeeland landscape. The Grensgevallen project will be continued, and the aim is to capture all knowledge and experiences in a book. More info on Grensgevallen: here

Quinten Buijsse, landscape photographer, photographed the Terneuzen city hall for ArtBase Terneuzen as a free assignment and discovered, zooming in and out, the poetry of this iconic brutalist building. A selection from this city hall project can be seen in the lobby exhibition at the city hall. More about his exhibition at ArtBase: here

Finally, Godelieve Spaas, lecturer in Art | Culture | Transition at HZ University of Applied Sciences, gave an update on the approach to the Post 65 conversations within HZ. So far it has turned out to be an exciting and valuable exercise in figuring out how to learn to think more freely together with students and to listen to one another in order to come up with new solutions for current problems and challenges.

The landscape of their youth turned out to influence the vision of all the speakers regarding the (Zeeland) landscape and their field of work. And the change in the landscape since the Post 65 era is a topic — directly or indirectly — in each of their professional practices.
