BRAAK — expedition through an industrial afterlife
June 6 & 7, 2026
Braak is an expedition to a derelict industrial site in Vlissingen-Oost. Guided by an audio tour, you are taken on an exploration of the history, present, and possible future of the place where the Thermphos phosphorus factory operated between 1968 and 2013. Across the vast terrain, miniature works by the British artist duo Jake and Dinos Chapman and Middelburg-based artist Anne-Marie van Sprang are presented. In a portable site cabin at the edge of the area, the spirit of the close-knit factory community lives on. Through beautiful, intimate, troubling, and sometimes dark memories and fantasies, we step beyond the conventional paths of industrial future visions. What if this area could become something other than simply an industrial site waiting for the next factory?
